The emergence of new mobile phone standards means that the 2G network is gradually gradually being replaced by new technologies. Apart from the United States, a number of countries no longer support 2G, for example Singapore, Taiwan or Australia. Our service provider for Kizy Tracking, Swisscom, has announced that it will switch off 2G by 31 December 2020. Therefore, as announced in our newsletter from February, the K-1 Tracker will not work anymore in Switzerland starting January 1st, 2021.
The shutdown of the 2G network in Switzerland by the end of 2020 gradually marks the retirement of our K-1 tracker. We will officially announce its end-of-life status on August 31st, 2020, for an end of support on March 1st, 2021.
It is with a smile on one eye and a tear in the other that we are announcing this news. For us it means to say goodbye to our first “baby” that came to life from a garage in Switzerland. But it is also something positive that we have moved on to the next generation of Kizy Trackers. The K-2 is much more reliable, precise, and functional; it has a built-in light sensor and it can be extended with a temperature sensor. As much as the K-2 has gained in tracking performance, it reflects the company’s evolution from a start-up to a solid player in the global supply chain tracker market. The K-2 Tracker is an IoT device that is compatible with 3G networks, and of course with the remaining 2G networks, which makes it future-proof for at least the next 6 years.
Will the K-1 Tracker continue to work?
Yes, in countries that support 2G network the K-1 Tracker will continue to function normally, even after March 1st, 2021.
Are tracking services discontinued after the 6 months end-of-life notification period?
No, you can continue to track your shipments with the K-1 Tracker as long as the tracker is functional. However, after February 2021, tracking services are no longer guaranteed.
Is there still a warranty on K-1 Trackers?
No, the warranty for K-1 Trackers has expired. Kizy offers a 2 years warranty on the devices.
